Our Undershephard

Rev. Rodney B. Phipps was born June 1, 1960, and was the third child of the late Robert L. Phipps, Sr. and Bernice L. Phipps (Davis). At the age of eight years old, he received Salvation and was baptized by the late Pastor B.J. Washington. He was educated in the Columbus Public School System, and a graduate of Linden McKinley High School.

He later attended the Eastern Union Bible College, where he studied Old Testament Theology, under the late Rev. Dr. Percy Carter and New Testament Theology under Rev. Dr. Otha Gilyard. He is the husband of Sandra Elaine Phipps, and the father of four children: Kenyetta (Quincy), Sherrod, Marlean (Ahmad, Sr.) and Ashlee. He has nine grandchildren, Nyah, Ahmad Jr., Ahmere, Shy’Riyah, Shy’Anne, Triston, Chance, Ashari and DJ, and two Goddaughters, Shiloh and Trinity.

After many ups and downs and running from his calling, he accepted the call into the Gospel Ministry, September 3, 1989 and was licensed to preach the Gospel by the late Pastor B.J. Washington at the New Zion Baptist Church, where he served as an Associate Minister for four years under Pastor B.J. Washington and 7 years under the late Pastor Robert D. McCreary.

He later joined the Tabernacle Baptist Church under Pastor Odell Waller where he was Licensed and Ordained. He then received the call from God and was elevated to the next level. On October 8, 2000, he stepped out on faith and organized the New Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church.

While worshipping at Avalon Elementary School for fourteen months, New Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church purchased our first building located at 2020 Mock Road, December 21, 2001. As God continued to extend His Grace and His Mercy the church continued to grow. Under the inspiration of God and the leadership of Pastor Phipps, and expansion vision was in place and two pieces of property located at 2030 & 2040 Mock Road was purchased on March 14, 2004.
