Our History

New Shiloh Full Gospel Missionary Baptist Church began in the heart, mind and spirit of Rev. Rodney B. Phipps.  Upon hearing the voice of the Lord, Rev. Phipps stepped out on faith on October 2, 2000, when he went to the Secretary of State to have the name “New Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church” incorporated.  While still trusting that God would make a way and with no members in sight, he planned a Bible Study for Wednesday, October the 4th, at Avalon Elementary School, where seven people were in attendance.

After a wonderful Word from the Lord out of St. Matthew 16:13-19 with the subject from verse 18 “And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it”, four of the seven joined the newly organized mission.  On the 8th of October, Sunday Morning, the first service was held.  Many, many friends, loved ones and on-lookers came to see what God was doing and another six persons joined.

Even though we were not recognized by the local Baptist Association, we were stead-fast, unshakeable always abounding in the will of God, and He sent us two men, Pastor’s in the City, who helped to guide this already miracle from God, in the persons of Pastor J. Matthew Carter, Sr. of the Mt. Period Baptist Church and Pastor Odell Waller of the Tabernacle Baptist Church, who later became Rev. Phipps Pastor.  Pastor Waller licensed Rev. Phipps and the Eastern Union Association catechized and ordained him, February 10, 2001.

Later that same year, July 2, 2001, while still worshipping at Avalon Elementary, the Baptist Association of Columbus and Vicinity granted New Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church our acceptance and recognition.  After being at Avalon Elementary for fourteen months, the Lord blessed again and we purchased our first building at 2020 Mock Road, December 21, 2001.  On January 20, 2002, after many hours of labor and love, we had our first service after a caravan from Avalon to where we currently Worship God.  Thanks be to God for the great things He has done.

On March 29, 2004 by the Grace of God and under the leadership of Pastor Rodney B. Phipps, New Shiloh Full Gospel Missionary Baptist Church was blessed to purchase two pieces of property, located at 2030 and 2040 Mock Road.  On 11-16-06 once again the Lord has allowed His Grace to be upon us and we were able to purchase yet another piece of property located at 2162 Berrell Avenue.

In 2009, Elder Phipps became a part of the Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship International.  In July 2010, the church officially became a part of the fellowship and ultimately the name was changed to:  New Shiloh Full Gospel Missionary Baptist Church. In 2017, we were again blessed to purchase another piece of property located at 2161 Rankin Avenue. All of the property has been purchased for the new sanctuary to be built right here in this community.

To God be the Glory for the Great Things He has done! Look how far He has brought Us!
